Beach Sundal is medium spicy sundal which is available
in mobile hotel sundal on side of the roads in beach. Which is very tasty in Chennai they called
this as thalluvandi Sundal or vandi kadai sundal. This is made of boiled yellow peas with
spices.
Ingredients for Beach Sundal
Yellow peas – 250 g
Sambar powder – 2 tspn
Garam masala powder – 1 tspn
Kashmiri chilli powder – 1 tspn
Turmeric powder – ½ tspn
Salt to taste
Required oil
Ingredients for paste
Onion – 2
Tomato – 1
Green Chilli – 2
Ginger – small piece
Garlic cloves – 7
For garnishing
Onion – 1
Curry leaves – little
Coriander leaves – little
Preparation
Soak the green peas for 8 hours or if time not
permitted you can soak in boiling water for 3 hours. Boil yellow peas with salt and turmeric
powder in pressure cooker for 5 whistles.
Leave the pressure cooker to cool.
In the mean while Cut the onion, tomato, green chilli, ginger and
garlic. Transfer the ingredients for
paste in blender jar and grind as a paste.
Chop the Coriander, Onion and curry leaves for
garnishing. Keep the pan in flame and
add oil and let the oil get heated up then add the grinded paste and sauté till
the raw smell go off. Filter the water
from boiled yellow peas and keep aside.
Now add the sambar powder and chilli powder and stir for a minute then
add the filtered water to this mixture.
Let the mixture to boil then add little curry
leaves and coriander leaves now add the required salt for this. You have
already added salt for yellow peas when we boiled. Now add the boiled water in total we have
added approximately 500ml of water and let the mixture to boil. Now add the boiled yellow peas with this and
lid for 10 minutes.
Now add the garam masala and lid for 2 more
minutes. Transfer this to bowl and
sprinkle the chopped onion and curry leaves.
The delicious beach masala sundal is ready to
